Precision is the security
A lock cylinder is a mechanism of minimal tolerances: if the tubular component is not calibrated, the cylinder turns with play, jams or loses reliability. In a garage door, if the torsion shaft or the roller have play, the door tips, drifts in the guide or seizes. In both cases, a failure of precision is a failure of security.
The mechanism works thousands of cycles
A garage door goes up and down daily for years; a lock is operated thousands of times. The tubing acting as shaft or guide has to hold its tolerance and its behaviour throughout its service life, without premature wear from friction or accumulated play.
Partly on show, partly out in the weather
The exposed hardware of the door carries a finish (chrome, zinc or paint) that protects it and makes it look right. That finish only comes out clean if the starting tubing is free of porosity.

Garage doors: shafts, rollers and guides
- Torsion and rotation shafts The tubing acts as the shaft the spring works on or the mechanism turns on. With the OPTIM range we control outer diameter, bore and wall thickness simultaneously, with an internal weld bead ≤ 0.15 mm: the shaft works with no play and no parasitic friction.
- Rollers and guide wheels The door runs on rollers that travel along the rail. The same principle of precision: a roller with a calibrated shaft does not squeak, does not drift and does not seize under load.
- Guides and rails Thin walls with the formability to profile the rail without cracking or ovalisation.
Lock cylinders and lock components
- Diameter calibrated to a hundredth of a millimetre In a lock cylinder, the fit between parts determines whether the cylinder turns smoothly and securely or jams. We control the outer diameter and bore with the precision the mechanism demands.
- Controlled internal weld bead The OPTIM range keeps the internal weld bead at ≤ 0.15 mm, so the bore is left clear and the elements of the mechanism seat and slide without obstruction.
- Very small diameters Lock components fall in the range where the market for calibrated tubing all but disappears, and where Delmàs has been working for decades.

Questions we hear every week
Why does a garage door jam or tip?
Usually because of play in the shaft or the rollers. If the tubing acting as the shaft retains a pronounced internal weld bead, or the diameter is not calibrated, play and friction appear. The OPTIM range keeps the internal weld bead at ≤ 0.15 mm and calibrates the diameter to a hundredth of a millimetre.
Do you manufacture the tubing for lock-cylinder components?
We manufacture small-diameter calibrated tubing with the dimensional control a lock mechanism demands. Tell us the exact component and its function and we will propose the right size and range.
Does the tubing arrive ready for chrome plating or painting?
Yes. The PREMIUM range is manufactured with a bright, non-porous outer surface, suitable for direct chrome, zinc, brass plating or painting, with no prior polishing stage.
Do you manufacture non-standard sizes?
Yes, that is our speciality. We do not standardise: if your mechanism needs 6.2 mm or 8.25 mm, we manufacture that size, controlled to a hundredth of a millimetre.
Do you deliver the finished component or just the tubing?
Both. As well as tubing in coil or cut to length, we transform the tubing into a finished component ready to assemble: cut, bent, punched, machined and with whatever surface finish the drawing requires.
